How Do Young Girls Deal With Menstruation?
Menstruation
is a women’s monthly period, or bleeding. It is caused by the lining of the
uterus. Menstrual flows from the uterus through the cervix and passes out
through the vagina.
An
average menstrual cycle is roughly 25 to 35 days. If you do not have period in
three months or more, consult a doctor. Usually, a girl will get PMS
(Premenstrual Syndrome) and experience acne, sore breasts, depression,
diarrhoea, mood swings etc. It occurs one to two weeks before ladies period
occurs.
Firstly,
what do you do when you get PMS? Eating a balanced diet with fruits and
vegetables, reduce salt intake and drinking lots of water will be a good diet
during PMS season. Do not drink coffee. It makes you anxious and make sure you
get proper rest. Try taking some self-medication techniques to help your mood.
Some
girls get period cramps when they have menstruation. The cramps usually last
for the first few days of the period for a few days. When you are a teenager,
try to control your mood swing especially in class. Girls have mood swings when
they have menses clocking in the next second.
The dysmenorrhea causes those cramps, which are also caused
by contractions of the uterus. Most young women have dysmenorrhea have back pain
and cramps.
If you
have dysmenorrhea, do not drink cold water. In fact, the more cold drinks you
take, the worse your cramp for your next period – NO COLD DRINKS. In fact, here
in Asian countries, a lot of people who have elders in their house says it’s a
tradition not to drink cold water before menses. You should avoid cold water
especially two weeks before your menses. However, you can also try to use
natural remedies such as a heating pad on your abdomen.
Next,
soak yourself in a warm bath. You should soak yourself in your bath when you
are not bleeding. Massage your abdomen with some essential oils that are good
for cramps like marjoram oils and clary sage oil. They will ease those cramps.
Furthermore,
use yoga as a type of exercise during menstrual cycle. It has shown to lessen
menstrual cramps for some young girls. There are several poses you can try.
First would be the Cobbler’s pose. It opens up the pelvic region and lessen
those cramps in your abdomen. In a seated straddle, you have to open both your
legs wide. Hold your hand downwards. It is also another good way to get rid of
those horrible cramps.
Lastly,
track your menstrual cycle with a period tracker to see if there is a pattern
to your pain. Check whether it begins or ends.
Periods
can be challenging, but consult your mother or sisters if you have any or see
your local doctor for more advice. Try to ask your close girl-friend if she
knows anything about it too. You can try asking for advice from an elderly
relative, don’t be ashamed if there isn’t anyone to turn to.
