Many youngsters nowadays have problems during adolescence.
Some have social problems, peer pressure, succumb to the workload and
expectations of their parents, some getting bullied in school, etc etc.
How do
you know if you are spiralling towards depression? Well, enlighten yourself.
First, you feel irritable and angry all the time. Ever felt
at throwing a book at someone making too much noise next to you when a year ago
you might just smile and watch him? Ever felt like losing your temper ever too
soon, when one year ago you were perfectly fine?
How
about having a broken relationship? Broken hearts can spiral towards
depression. If you have been crying over 3 months, it’s time to see a
psychiatrist.
Next,
do you have sleep difficulties? Some pop onto the pillow and sleeps
immediately, but some, well? Toss and turn till 5 am in the morning. O no.. Im
late for work! Or school, for that matter. Its no fun to cry yourself to sleep
every single night. And wake up like a panda, the very next morning. Imagine no
sleep for 6 consecutive months. That’s going to drive someone into the asylum
right?
Furthermore,
has your eating patterns changed? Perhaps binge eating? Six meals a day? Eating
chocolate? Eating sweets? Popcorn? Chips? Stuffing yourself like a bear? Hmm..
Or it could be the other way round. No appetite? Don’t eat anything at all?
Until you turn up anorexic?
Well,
all these are symptoms. However, there are a few ways to come out of
depression.
Firstly, music. Music is an art and music soothes the mind.
I mean taking up music lessons, not putting on the speakers with songs like
Romance D Amour. The high chance is you bursting into tears over sentimental
songs. If you take up piano or other instruments, you might gain back your
confidence. Same as to dancing. If you can dance, go ahead and join a class. If
you perform well on stage, you might also build up your self-esteem.
Lastly,
it would be to hit the gym. Depressed people are usually overweight people,
minus the anorexic people in this class. When you are fat, you eat, and when
you are fat, you are depressed, thus, eat more again. Not to mention the
anti-psychotics that you eat, which 90% of them decrease your metabolism.
Horrible? No, its not easy being a psychiatric patient. You need to exercise.
You need to move out of your head, move forward like a tortoise putting out his
foot in front of him, until finally, he reached the finish line. Slow, but at
least you are moving.
Now, Mr
Tortoise. Don’t give up. Move forward. Just keep moving. Don’t give up. Lots of
help on the way. Don’t compete with the society. Move at your own pace. As long
as you are moving.
