Bipolar
disorder is a mental disorder related to high and low mood changes and is also
classified as manic depression.
People
who have bipolar disorder can suddenly be very happy on a certain period and
then after feel very sad and irritable. The mood swings are horrible. There is
a thing called mania. During mania, they will have elevated feelings of joy,
and start eating uncontrollably or being reckless. Some even go for a shopping
spree. They buy lots of stuff and regret it afterwards. There is also a thing
called mania. During mania, they will have elevated feelings of joy, and start
eating uncontrollably or being reckless. Some stuff themselves with chocolate
indulgence, or buckets of ice cream.
During

mood shift, restlessness, rapid speech, high sex drive, grand plans for the
future.
Symptoms
of ‘low’ are sadness, low energy, trouble making decisions, uncontrollably
crying , insomnia, appetite change, suicidal and attempting suicide.
So how
do we treat bipolar? First, seek professional help. Medication is essential and
psychiatrists go against natural methods to treat bipolar. They are just
crucial to the treatment of bipolar disorder. However, it is also very dangerous
for a bipolar maniac person to run loose on the streets without taking
medication.
Next,
take your prescribed medication. Don’t ever discontinue your medication on your
own, or try to take it unregularly. Write down your questions and queries, and
ask your specific concerns and questions. Furthermore, organize your
medications. Fill in three pill boxes and put them in places you usually go in
the house, like the kitchen, the car and the dining table.
Besides
that, focus on the present. Don’t live in the past or future, but present. Take
a walk to stop your mind from wandering.
Furthermore,
chart your symptoms. You do not know when you are going to have another
moodswing. Print a calendar online, then write down whether you are happy or
not on that day. Just a smiley or a sad face will do. You need to chart it down
as you can prevent a mood episode. The less drama you have in your life, the
better.
Moreover,
avoid alcohol. Alcohol only worsens depression symptoms. Alcohol and drugs
elevate mood instability and might even lead to a depressive episode. We do not
want that.
Besides
that, exercise is essential for mental health. The more you exercise, you
release happy endomorphins bringing a satisfactory well-being. It is also good
for weight-balance as anti-psychotics are often leading to weight problems. If
you gain twenty kilos in three months, it’s probably the side-effects of
anti-psychotics.
Lastly,
stay happy with friend’s support and also family’s support. Make sure that you
do not feel too depressed and always seek the hotline for depression when you
feel suicidal or need a listening ear. Do not despair. There are many others
like you around you, if they can lead normal lives, so can you.
